Cogne UK has 1500 Tonnes of stainless steel bar products in its modern warehousing and distribution operation, and its own fleet of vehicles handling the deliveries.

COGNE began its industrial activity back in 1911. It was called Cogne after the name of the village where iron ore mines have been exploited since the Roman times.

Today Cogne Acciai Speciali is equipped with the following production units:

• The Steel Shop, whose main facilities are: UHP Electric Arc Furnace; AOD converter; RH degassing, continuous casting unit (3-4 strands).
  
  This area is also equipped with a blooming mill, a forging shop, with a press 2000 tons and a SXP 40 forging machine, and an ESR furnace.
  
  This unit produces ingots, billets, blooms, forged rounds and flats, bars for extrusion of seamless tubes and profiles;
• The Rolling Unit is equipped with an integrated bar and wire rolling mill, for the production of wire rod and round bars, and heat treatment furnaces;
• The Finishing Area completes the production cycle with the manufacturing of pickled wire rod, stainless steel round bars, bars and blocks in tool steel and bars in special heat resistant steels for the manufacture of intake and exhaust valves for all types of internal combustion engines.
• Cogne Technologies, the business unit in charge of the production of gas-atomized metal powders and tailor-made finished pieces. It is equipped with the following facilities: air induction furnace, atomization tower in inert gas, ultra-sonic vibrating separation machine for powders and a machining shop equipped with CNC machine tools suitable for the production of pieces up to about 20 m in length.

Established in Sheffield for over 80 years, George H Cook is today one of the leading Tool Steel suppliers in the UK with warehouses in Sheffield and Coventry.

The move to a new purpose-built 3,300 square metre Sheffield warehouse in 1997 has strengthened the company’s objective to offer the UK’s widest choice of Tool and Mould steel with a range now including powder metallurgy grades.

Recent investment has increased sawing capacity, and the company has installed ‘in house’ surface grinding and milling to handle the ever increasing demands for its Pre-Machined and ADVANTAGE bar in tool steel, as well as creating the capacity to grind special sizes for customers.

The range of Tool and Mould steels offered by George H Cook is detailed in this catalogue. In addition to these grades, the company maintains substantial stocks of Stainless Steel Bar in five popular grades.

Selected Alloy Engineering and Carbon Steels are also included in the stock range, being supplied mainly from the Coventry warehouse.

While stocks of standard qualities and sizes are available for immediate delivery, the company can also supply special demands for forged rings, blanks and blocks.

Non-standard grades can also be produced subject to manufacturing quantity requirements.
