Dowel Bar
Concrete slab dowel bars are used to transfer the load from one slab to another whilst permitting axial thermal expansion along the axis of the dowel. Austenitic stainless steel dowel bars are generally produced from plain round material. They provide a durable, corrosion resisting solution to connections in concrete or other structural applications. Available in a range of sizes, material grades and strengths, there is a suitable dowel bar for most requirements.

BS 6744 round bar is supplied in the standard diameters and in the grades shown in the table below.

Bar grade selection
Generally the grade 1.4301 is selected for the non marine and areas away from high chloride concentration. For road bridge expansion joints and similar applications we would suggest that 1.4401 or 1.4436 is used; with their superior Pitting Corrosion and Chloride resistance. See the Cogne technical bulletin “ Stainless steel reinforcement for concrete structures” this provides references for the most appropriate selection of steel grade for any particular application.

Specification Options
Dowel bar ends are typically sawn and therefore clean of burrs. If this is not a requirement, then the more economic sheared ends may be supplied, this should be clearly indicated at order stage.

Quality
Much of the steel supplied by Cogne Stainless Reinforcement UK is from the Italian Mill Cogne Acciai Specialai S. R. L. which has recently been awarded certification by UK CARES for concrete reinforcement products affirming our continued commitment to quality.

Sleeves and Caps
To complement the dowel bars there is a full range of de-bonding sleeves and expansion caps.

For the larger size bars and the longer de-bond sleeves a rigid tube has been adopted to ease the installation of the tube onto the bar.

Other accessories are available; such as chairs, prefabricated structural shear assemblies and bespoke supports for the dowels.
